CEO Lynda Holt is a paralympian and shares her story of the company and community dedicated to enhancing the lives of those who roll with resilience.
“My name is Lynda Holt, and my life’s journey has been a tale of overcoming challenges, resilience, and the drive to make a difference. From my moment at the Sydney Paralympics in 2000 to the world of business, my story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of innovation.
In 2000, I sat on the podium at the Sydney Paralympics, proudly clutching my silver medal for Shot Put and Discus. That moment was the culmination of over 27 years of dedication to athletics, a journey characterised by rigorous training and balancing a full-time job while navigating the intricacies of my disability.
Post my athletic career, I embarked on a diverse professional path, exploring different industries, including recruitment, travel insurance focusing on medical emergencies, and even serving with the police at 000. However, my disability often led to hospital stays, making it challenging to sustain a traditional job in the mainstream workforce.
Undeterred, I set out to build my own businesses. Choice Consultancy was my first venture, providing essential services to NDIS and Aged Care, specialising in cleaning and support work. Drawing from my personal experiences as an NDIS participant, I bring a unique understanding and empathy to my business operations.
Driven by a desire to enhance the lives of people facing similar challenges, I founded Wheelie Essential. This venture was born from my own struggles during extensive travels as an athlete, where carrying luggage was a constant struggle. Wheelie Essential offers innovative products catering to the needs of people living life in a wheelchair, making travel and daily life more manageable. From the convenience of Phoenix Bags to adaptable clothing designed by Christina Stephens, I continually seek out products that can enhance the quality of life for everyone.
My journey is a living testament to resilience, determination, and an indomitable spirit to overcome obstacles. I transitioned from being a Paralympian athlete to a successful entrepreneur, with the aspiration of empowering and positively impacting the lives of others. I believe that with the right mindset and dedication, anyone can triumph over challenges and achieve greatness. Through my story, I hope to encourage others to pursue their dreams and never give up, regardless of the hurdles they face.“
